Peter L. Senez, M.Eng., P.Eng    

Founding Partner

Peter Senez is an experienced and well-respected authority in the field of fire engineering. Active in the fire industry for over 20 years, Mr. Senez has diverse and unique industry experience. He has managed large construction projects, implemented fire research programs, coordinated fire test programs, worked as a fire fighter and analyzed hundreds of real fires. He understands fire science and technologies, and is skilled at interpreting codes, analyzing failures, developing risk assessments, gauging the probability of failures, and explaining the dynamics of fire.

He is well travelled, in service to Sereca’s international client base, and is an author and frequent lecturer on the subjects of heat transfer, fire growth, combustion dynamics, computer fire modelling, and sources of ignition. Mr Senez actively participates on many industry committees.

Chris J. Reed, MSc.Eng., P.Eng.

Founding Partner

Chris Reed combines his wide industry experience with a practical background in fire fighting and an extensive education in fire science and fire engineering.  He has investigated and analysed several hundred fires and explosions, including residential, commercial, industrial, heavy equipment, and marine fire losses. With particular expertise in industrial processes, he has led investigations of many large-loss industrial fires.

Active in the industry, he is a Certified Fire Investigator and Instructor through the National Association of Fire Investigators. Based on his knowledge of chemical processes and his forensic experience, Mr. Reed has written and lectured on the particular challenges related to fires in clandestine drug laboratories. As part of the research program at Sereca, he has organized and conducted large scale fire test programs.

Keith D. Calder, M.Eng., P.Eng.     

Founding Partner

Keith Calder provides leadership with his expertise in building codes, fire safety standards, specialized fire protection systems, and performance-based design. He focuses on assisting clients with alternative solutions for complex and innovative designs. In particular, he specializes in the use of computer fire modelling to assess new construction design with regard to smoke control and people movement.

Complementing his design expertise, Mr. Calder has a wide background in forensic fire investigation. He has investigated and analyzed many fire and explosion incidents, and has conducted forensic audits of building design and construction. An active researcher, he has developed a vast knowledge of current and historical building codes, and continues to coordinate and assist with our ongoing live burn research program.

Harold A. Locke, P.Eng.            

Specialist Consultant - Design

Harold Locke’s 40+ years of experience in fire protection engineering spans a wide range of projects in Canada, the USA and overseas. A former Vice President of Rolf Jensen & Associates and President of Locke MacKinnon Domingo Gibson & Associates, he has worked as a specialist consultant to Sereca since 2005. He is a respected expert in fire engineering particularly for rapid transit systems, and has contributed to numerous national and international transit projects.

Mr. Locke has played a significant role in advancing the industry’s codes and standards, including serving as a member of the Committee for NFPA 130 Standard for Fixed Guideway Transit and Passenger Rail Systems and in the preparation of the Ontario Building Code Requirements for Rapid Transit Stations. He has participated in code committees responsible for the development of the National Building Code since 1970 and has served on technical and standards committees for ULC, CSA, ISO, the American Society for Testing of Materials, the National Fire Protection Association, and the National Research Council of Canada Division of Building Research (now known as the Institute for Research in Construction), and others.

Michael Bodnar, M.Eng., P.Eng.

Manager, Calgary Office

Mr. Bodnar brings to Sereca a range of engineering experience from his background as an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, a field engineer for a large international oilfield services company, a Senior Fire Protection Engineer with a large hydroelectric utility company, and with Sereca Fire Consulting Ltd. from 2005. Mr. Bodnar has worked extensively both domestically and internationally.

This variety of exposure has proved critical in Mr. Bodnar’s successful forensic investigation of large loss fires from the residential, commercial, industrial, and marine environments; he has a particular interest in fire suppression and fire spread issues. Specific to fire design, Mr. Bodnar’s focus has been on fire suppression and explosion mitigation in the power utility and oil and gas industries as well as the development of alternative solutions.

Yeo Swee Khiank, M. Fire Safety Eng., P.Eng.    

Senior Engineer, Singapore Office

As a Senior Engineer in Sereca’s Singapore office, Mr. Yeo brings a depth of experience with fire and life safety design, particularly for transportation systems.
 
At the Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA), he reviewed and prepared designs for fire services and environmental systems, assisted in preparing performance based codes for Singapore’s Standard for Fire Safety in Rapid Transit Systems, and conducted fire engineering studies using simulation tools for a variety of transit projects. An experienced manager, Mr. Yeo has led teams of engineers and technical officers as part of his role within the LTA and as a  consultant.

Danusia Figiel, CMA

Chief Operating Officer 

Danusia Figiel is the Chief Operating Officer for the Sereca Group of Companies.  A Certified Management Accountant she has extensive experience in accounting, financial forecasting, tax compliance, planning, auditing, project management and corporate organizations.
 
With her strong background in management and finance, Ms. Figiel adapts her experience with various national and international companies to implement Sereca's business development strategy. With both a technical and experiential background in optimization and accounting, she applies her operational, planning and business development skills to handle the organization's operational, functional, financial and information system requirements.   
 
Ms. Figiel serves on the Board of Directors of various charities and non-profit organizations as a corporate and financial advisor and tax consultant.
