At the core of Sereca is a deep understanding of fire science. We leverage this knowledge on a daily basis to serve all of our clients. Our clients know that we advise with authority, combining our knowledge of fire science with our professional expertise and our use of advanced technology.
To enhance our knowledge, we invest in comprehensive, ongoing research. We use this program to challenge broadly defined areas of fire theory, to probe gaps in our profession’s knowledge of fire protection design, and to develop a more complete understanding of fire behaviour.
Ultimately, our investment in research enables us to “think outside the box” and develop cost-effective solutions that enable our clients to be more creative, and more successful in their architectural designs and building practices.
Testing and Analysis
A key component of our research program is to analyze fire in action.
Large-scale testing, while expensive, provides a practical example of fire behaviour under controlled circumstances. We make observations and collect data prior to, during, and following suppression in a real-world environment. Following the research burns, we analyze the burns using computer fire modelling, to better understand the test behaviour and to tune our modelling techniques.
The results of our analyses are often published in industry journals and presented at industry events, and provide input for further research.
